The little bear has been carrying a string of beads about with him these days. When I found him in the carseat fast asleep with his hands wrapped around the beads like this – he looked very devout. In those split few seconds before I woke him, my mind had already raced ahead to visions of him becoming a priest. I started wondering how the heck I was going to get my ultra adorable grand babies if Theo entered the priesthood. Mere seconds later I’d decided I’d have to start lobbying for the ordination of married men in preparation. It was around the time I started thinking about catchy slogans for the right of priests to be married men that I realised I was being mildly ridiculous, especially considering we’re not even Catholic.

rose has a paci clip that ruby loves to play with, it’s rainbow wooden beads like this. where did you get this fantastic toy??!!
p.s. you’re totally crazy

@robin, You don’t need to tell me I am crazy, it’s a well known fact
This is not a toy, it is just a long string of colourful wooden beads. I’d say as to baby safe it would score a big fat -10 but hey? Theo loves it!

As far as baby-safe goes, think he’d still like them if you knotted between the beads, with a little moving room in between? (the way they do for amber necklaces, but make more room so he can still slide the beads around).
Often times it seems the best toys are the simplest ones. For Iris, she loved this ball I’d made by tying thin strips of fabric scraps together and knotting the ends. It was deeply textured and grab-able (and infinitely nommable!) and was free. Can’t wait to pass it on to the next kid.

@Rebecka, Yes, that is a good plan for making baby safe! I will give it a go.
I want to see a pic of this ball you speak of. I am trying to imagine it and struggling.

@Georgia,

It’s just a handful of narrow strips of cotton, folded over and knotted on each end. I took one and tied it around a bunch of the others and it poofed into a ball. Sort of. These were originally scraps that an Etsy purchase came wrapped in and I intended to make a much larger, fluffier version later on and never got to it. But boy, I showed it to Iris today with the intent of getting a photo for you (it’s been in a box since she was maybe 10 months old) and she could hardly breathe she was so excited! It really is the simple things in life, isn’t it?
