Yin Yang

Yin Yang.
I remember very clearly being in year eight at my conservative Christian school and being told by a teacher that Yin Yang was an ‘evil concept’. That Yin Yang muddied good with evil. Which is strange because I’ve never seen the concept that way and I’ve always been attracted to it’s philosophy. It seems to be to a great expression for a very natural force of duality.
Just like the polarity found in nature; fire & water, light & dark, male & female, it’s so beautiful how these work together and give way to each other. I’ve never thought of it as good vs evil but more of a balance between opposites and the paradox that everything is intertwined and working in harmony. I see it as balance and grace, strength & gentleness. From brokenness grows strength and beauty is in complexity. Transforming each other, creating something rich and real.
Aside from me covering Theo’s naked bottom for modesty, this is exactly how I found the little ones this afternoon, so sweetly asleep. I stood here for the longest time admiring them. I was stuck with their positioning and the colours of their rugs and couldn’t help but think about the balance and strength between them. The feminine & masculine. The fire and water. I love how perfectly they compliment each other, how they challenge me completely and fill my heart entirely.
