An easy afternoon at Shorncliffe. Theo was trying his best to get more chips than Priya was offering and eyeing her off when she only gave him crumbs.
They’re interacting so much more with each other these days, I hear them having conversations and I feel almost odd that the conversation doesn’t include me!

On the banks at Kangaroo point the Brisbane River had risen by 4.5 metres. Since the last time the waters rose so dramatically was in 1974, we are hopeful that this will not be an event Theo will witness again for many years to come. It was so heartbreaking to see so many people lose their homes, businesses and belongings. While we watched the dark and angry waters rush by we spotted a man floating down the river in the debris from his own boat (which we learned from the news later that evening). As we stood dumbstruck on the waters edge watching tragedy float by, the water police managed to pull him to safety – his yacht and all his belongings weren’t so lucky. I will never be able to comprehend the agony of losing everything like that. My heart aches for all the families affected.

Something about hats, headbands, beanies, buckets, bowls and nearly anything else that will go on his head attracts Theo like the moth the flame. I can always expect to see him happily putting things on and off his head. This afternoon he was smitten with his reflection in a rain spattered window, admiring my scarf on his head.

The rain has still not let up in Brisbane and as the river is bursting at the seams, threatening to flood – Theo patiently waits for a day that he can go play outside.

On a grey and stormy day down at Margate, Theo was not in the least bit put off by rain.
Rainy weather at the beach is my bliss by the way. I could spend 100 weekends doing nothing but this.
