We drove out into the country where the fields stretched out to the mountains and the cattle dotted rolling pastures. We stood our ground as the evening wind whipped our hair and stung our eyes.  We stayed until our fingers grew cold, our bellies felt empty and our hearts were full of the incredible beauty of this land.

In the front room of lola & lolo’s sits an old unused piano. When we visit he gets a little workout from curious fingers.

If you are a liker of Gregarious Peach facebook page then you might have read that we had a hard day for Theo in the ER with an infection. Thank you to everyone who sent their well wishes and love to him.

Here he is waiting for the doctors to return with his swab results. Little bear was very brave. I mean, very, very brave. It was a very long and emotionally draining day of doctors, gp’s, chemists and car trips so I cannot imagine what it would have been like with all those things plus being in a lot of physical pain. My heart broke for him.

I am trying hard to write about what happened while still protecting Theo’s privacy in this, so forgive me for being vague.

As his mother I have always tried to protect him however on this day I wasn’t able to defend him and something that deeply upset he and I happened when it shouldn’t have. I was completely shaken and felt I had let Theo down in my job to be his protector.

The feeling of failing him is incredibly heavy and does not compare to any feelings I have had yet as a mother, I still feel so small when I think about it.

And this is that terrible aching beauty of motherhood, so much joy floating on so much responsibility.

Theo was in a lot of pain today and his sister was in no short supply of love & cuddles to soothe him. I am so proud of the little tender heart she has for him.

On a little walk with his baby.

I ask him if he likes being a daddy and he nods but looks worried as he says “dis baby got no boobies”. I laugh and he frowns, not finding any humour in a baby without boobies.

There is so much I love about this photo (especially, especially the nose picking). This is Peach at the fourth birthday party of one of her oldest friends. In fact, while I was taking this photo I realised that Peach has been to each and every one of Scarlet’s four birthday parties, how awesome is that? It’s strange to think they’ve gone from babies to little girls in but the blink of an eye.
